SkoCode Educator Position Description
School Year 2026-2027
Applications accepted on a rolling basis through March 31, 2026
✦ Program Overview
At SkoCode, we believe providing Indigenous students with hands-on experience in emerging technologies is crucial for preparing them for future leadership roles in their communities. Unfortunately, there are not enough educational pathways for Native youth to meaningfully engage with computer science (CS) and emerging technologies. As of 2021, only 20% of high schools on reservations offered a foundational CS class.
We launched Indigitize to expand access to CS for Indigenous youth. Since 2024, we have worked with schools and educators to provide meaningful CS and AI learning experiences to over 21,000 Indigenous students.
✦ Service Position Summary
As a SkoCode educator, you will serve at a school site where you will build relationships with students and staff. Your role will be to get people excited about CS and find ways to meaningfully connect it to the local culture. We will provide you with training, curricular resources, and ongoing support so you can facilitate high-quality, culturally-relevant CS learning experiences for your students.
✦ Day In The Life
The exact SkoCode educator role varies based on the school site and their needs. Some SkoCode educators lead before- and after-school programs for their whole school, some teach a CS class as an elective or special during the school day, and some co-teach with other teachers and collaborate to integrate CS into the core curriculum.. In addition to the direct work they do with students, all SkoCode educators spend some time every week planning and prepping for lessons. Indigitize provides resources and a base curriculum map, but we want you and your students to have agency over what your SkoCode program evolves into and addresses your student's interests and needs. SkoCode educators also attend a weekly (virtual) SkoCode Cohort meeting and a bi-weekly 1:1 with Indigitize Staff. The daily schedule varies by site, but educators will work one of two program models: 20 hours/week or 30 hours/week.

Willingness to Learn: Applicants who have an interest in learning and teaching aspects of CS and AI literacy.

SkoCode educators will need to fulfill all required background checks, fingerprinting, etc. as outlined by their school site. All costs associated with this will be covered by Indigitize.
✦ Service Commitment
Time Requirement: We expect our educators to make SkoCode their primary professional responsibility, and they should be available to commit to one of our two SkoCode program models: 20 hours/week or 30 hours/week of service.
Term of Service / Time Commitment: The position’s start and end dates will correspond with their school site’s calendar. Depending on the program model, educators may be expected to serve Monday – Friday, between the hours of 7 am – 6 pm with some weekend or evening commitments, and for any requirements for educators to participate in events at the site as required.

SkoCode educators receive significant training and experience in community engagement, CS and AI literacy, leadership, and Indigenous Education. Educators are expected to join weekly (virtual) PD sessions facilitated by Indigitize. Each educator has a bi-weekly 1:1 check-in with SkoCode staff. Educators will be supervised and supported by a host site supervisor, as well as SkoCode Program Staff.
